INFO 657 Student Project

The pages of this guide were created by students in the course INFO 657 winter term 2025.

Introduction

Digital Literacy is one of the critical core skills of the 21st century, and this page will help you familiarize yourself with ways to better understand and integrate programs to promote digital literacy in your community. A term for a user's ability to navigate online spaces, digital interfaces, and work with computer tools, digital literacy is highly applicable in an increasingly digitized world.

Two people are sharing a laptop computer. Their hands are visible, and one is currently showing the other something on the screen, unseen.

Digitalization and digital literacy have recently become highlighted, especially in 2020, when the global pandemic "added a fair amount of complexity in, e.g. skills needed to execute remote work, activities and operations of the organisations. This is especially a major challenge for organisations which are used to traditional ways of performing their daily and routine activities" (Nikou, 2022). Now more than ever, the importance of being digitally literate has been seen in nearly every sector of life.

Whether you're looking to shape up your skills or start a workshop in your library or community, the resources here should set you on the path toward greater understanding of how to navigate the digital world of today and tomorrow.
