Assistive technologies (AT), sometimes called adaptive technologies, describe tools for students with learning differences, specifically reading or writing. Many of them come in the from of web extensions or software. There are many different kinds but some of the most popular are text to speech (TTS) programs such as Speechify and VoxBox. Other forms of AT modify words and fonts to guide the eye, examples include beeline reader and special fonts. ATs are technological opportunities for libraries to help students (and everyone) with learning differences enjoy library resources and stay engaged with learning! They are linked to other issues in libraries such as accessible, and many utilize AI which is another technology challenge/opportunity for libraries.
