Shelving Procedures
All items are in call number order, upright, and pushed to the right with no spaces
All items are lined up along the shelf edge without being pushed through to the shelf behind
Items sticking out more than 1.5 inches should be pulled and given to Print Resources for the Oversize collection. Oversize shelves are set up to allow for items to push through.
Shelves are shifted (relatively) evenly, with a bookend in place
If a shelf is filled, the bookend should be placed on a blue shelf
Extra bookends are available on blue shelves in the second-level stacks or in the shelving room
Oversize: shelf is no more than half-full, allowing for push-through
Damaged Items and New Call Number Labels
When an item is returned or otherwise discovered either damaged or needing a replacement spine label, it should be given to Print Resources for processing.
Damaged items get a green Damaged Item flag.
Replacement labels get a red New Call Number Label flag.
Place at the Service Desk, in the Print Resources bin
Do not fill out or otherwise write on the flags—they may be reused. If you need to add a note, use a sticky note or a slip of scrap paper and place with the item.
Items Not Found
If a client reports that they cannot find an item on the shelf, and you confirm that it is in place in Alma and not in place on the shelf, select the More […] button next to the item and select “Toggle Missing Status” from the drop-down menu.
