Recommended resources for SMT T280 research assignments

Research Assignment

Students will be assigned a partner. Students may choose a college or professional sports team (e.g. Penn State, Philadelphia Phillies) or sports league (e.g. National Football League). Using industry tools, each student will research the growth of team/league owned content, distribution channels and authentication requirements. Student will provide a final paper and presentation to the class. Students will answer the following questions in their research:

  • Who Owns the Broadcast Game Rights?
  • Who Owns the Radio Broadcast Rights?
  • Network Profile
    • Ownership
    • Type of Channel
    • Office Location
    • Number of Employees
    • President
    • Types of Programming
    • Financials
    • Reach (Number of households) and states available in
    • Monthly fee per Household
    • Annual Revenues
  • What assets does the team/league also control? Consider: website, streaming, pre/post “shoulder” programming
