ANS L&A Services FAQ

Can I do quick scans of my own materials in L&A?

  • For simple scans of your own materials, you can use the KIC scanner in the Reading Room during library hours. To log into the KIC computer, follow the instructions posted near the machine. (Do not try to log in with your own credentials as the software will not work properly.) Always be mindful of any copyright restrictions on the materials you are reproducing.

How can I obtain high-resolution images of materials from the L&A collections?

  • L&A staff can provide high-resolution images of L&A materials by request. If you need high-resolution images of L&A materials, please complete the L&A Image Request Form with as much detail as possible.

Can I use scanning equipment in L&A to do hi-res scans of my own materials?

  • The Greenfield Center (located in L&A, same floor as the Reading Room, next to the Archives) contains the following equipment for creating high-resolution images:

  1. Overhead camera

  2. Flatbed scanner

  3. Slide scanner

  • The equipment is available to staff for independent use for non-Library & Archives materials only with advanced notice. For this type of use, L&A staff can provide access to the room and a brief set up of the equipment.

  • Please email ANS_library@drexel.edu to schedule a time to use the equipment.

  • Note that you are responsible for all resulting image storage (images will not be stored on the Greenfield computers).

  • You must contact ANS_tech@drexel.edu to setup a login on all Greenfield computers.

  • Instructions for equipment use are posted in the Greenfield Center. You can also access instructions for the overhead camera here and the flatbed and slide scanners here. L&A staff cannot guarantee availability to provide training or assistance.

Does Library & Archives provide instructional support?

  • L&A staff can provide instructional support for students at Drexel University and other area institutions, including class presentations that incorporate course or assignment-based resources and activities. Sessions may be geared toward teaching students primary source literacy and enhancing their research, critical thinking, and writing skills.  Library & Archives staff can work with instructors to tailor class sessions to course subject matter and learning objectives.

Is L&A available to collaborate in museum programs and other initiatives?

  • Library & Archives is open to collaborations for internal programming and events. Please reach out to ANS_library@drexel.edu at least 2 months in advance of the day of the program or event to discuss specifics.

I have never gone on a behind-the-scenes tour of L&A and would love to! Is that possible?

  • Yes! L&A staff are happy to show you around the Rare Books room, the Archives, and the Reference collection. We can often point out interesting items along the way. Send a message to ANS_library@drexel.edu to arrange a visit.
