September 9-15: National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week 2024

Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) across the country are being recognized this week by President Biden, during National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week.

 

September 12: Bibliopolítica Celebratory Launch Event

Bibliopolítica shares the stories of trailblazing library workers, students and community members who worked to preserve and make Chicana/o/x resources available at NYU Libraries.

 
September 15: Mexican Independence Day Festival

This is a free and popular event that has something for everyone: traditional Mexican food and artisan crafts vendors, renowned performers from Mexico and the area on stage, children’s activities, and much more.

 

September 27: The 37th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards

The historic Hispanic Heritage Awards is among the highest honors by Latinos for Latinos and supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions. Be sure to check out the Hispanic Heritage Awards Archive [PBS] for more! 

 

October 3: Drexel SCDI Hispanic Heritage Month Festival

This annual celebration hosted by the Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion will be held in Rush Garden on October 3 from 3pm-5pm. 

 

October 16: Digitizing 100 Years of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in New York City

Join CENTRO’s Digital Projects Specialist for a virtual Library & Archives Lunch Hour as she shares her favorite new items that have been added to the digital collections.

Hispanic Heritage Month in Philadelphia 2024

Officially running from September 15 through October 15, 2024, Hispanic Heritage Month brings city-wide celebrations highlighting Philly’s diverse Hispanic and Latino community. And with so much to do, the city gets an early start.

Philadelphia sees fiestas and festivals take over city blocks, with La Feria Del Bario kicking things off on September 8 in North Philly’s Centro de Oro neighborhood; parades hit the streets including the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway; and exhibitions and performances, like Arte y Pasion’s Hacia la Luz, light up galleries and stages.
